When choosing a pool to mine Zcash (ZEC) on the equihash algorithm, the main factors are fee, payout method, pool hashrate, and minimum payout threshold. Larger pools find blocks more frequently but pay smaller individual rewards — over time the expected return is similar regardless of pool size.
Payout methods explained
PPLNS rewards loyalty — the longer you mine, the more you earn per share. PPS pays a fixed rate per share regardless of luck. FPPS also includes transaction fees. SOLO gives you the full block reward if you find a block yourself.
